P.S this was the first Star Wars film I watched! :)
My absolute favorite scene in A New Hope is when Luke destroyes the Death Star. It is a really action packed, adrenaline rush scene where we begin to see Luke's prowess with the Force. I just love Luke's reaction to what he just did- astonishment. He looked completely shocked, most likely thinking- 'oh crap, I just did it.' I also like in the scene where Obi-Wan is telling him to use the Force and let go; then afterwards, while a shocked Luke bobs in space, Obi-Wan says "The Force will be with you. Always." - Obi-Wan's best line in the Original Trilogy!
This scene is so powerful- there is no dialogue but we can see the longing in Luke's face and the longing in the music that grows as he stares out at the suns, the light playing across his face. Wonderful scene, wonderful music, and wonderful acting. Also, I know many people find him whiny but really, he's not. He's stuck in the middle of nowhere and he's constantly getting disappointed and it frustrates him- totally understandable.
And of course, I love the scene where Luke gets his father's lightsaber. After watching the Prequel Trilogy we know what horrors have been inflicted with this blade and can only hope Luke will use it for good.
Oh, and I love the parts where people keep making snide remarks to Han Solo about his ship(What a piece of junk). I remember finding that hilarious when I first watched it.
Also the conversation Han has with the Imperials when they're trying to rescue Leia- "Boring conversation anyway. LUKE WE'RE GOING TO HAVE COMPANY!!!"
And you really feel for the characters. I know it's sad but it was is so well done it goes to the top of my list. Oh, and by the time Revenge of the Sith ends, don't you just want to give Obi-Wan a hug? :(
My second favorite part is the Duel on Mustafar- which I discussed in an earlier post. It is a favorite of mine because the fight is so well done. The actors are going the speed that you see and the acting is also amazing. It is very tragic to see once best friends dueling to the death :(. Especially since Obi-Wan didn't even want to fight him but he had to because Anakin had turned to the dark side. If you want to read more go here- http://writing-reading-acting.blogspot.com/2011/11/star-wars-challenge-day-11.html
I love the end scene where Obi-Wan takes baby Luke to Owen and Beru on Tatooine. There is no dialogue but the scene is powerful enough with the imagery and music. It is also sad to see Obi-Wan fade into the shadows as he turns away and walks into a lonely exile.
The goodbye scene is a very nice and, since you know what is going to happen, emotional scene. Anakin apologizes to Obi-Wan for his behavior and tells him that his friendship means everything to him. Obi-Wan then proceeds to tell Anakin that he is strong and wise and that he is very proud of him- then he says that Anakin is a far greater Jedi then he could ever hope to be. They smile at each other and Obi-Wan starts to leave when Anakin calls out to him, saying his name and the Jedi send off of "May the Force be with you." Obi-Wan smiles and says "Goodbye old friend, and May the Force be with you." This scene is sad because we know this is the last time they will speak to each other as friends.
I love the scene where Obi-Wan watches the hologram at the Temple and is horrified to see who had lead the attack on his home- his best friend, brother, and son- Anakin. It hurts him so much that he has to turn it off. Then he begs Yoda to let him fight the Emperor since he doesn't want to kill the man he regards as his brother. It is a very touching moment and we can hear both Obi-Wan's and Yoda's voice crack with suppressed tears.
A small scene but I like how Bail immediately wants to help the Jedi- and his friend Obi-Wan- out after the catastrophe. I felt bad for Obi-Wan here since he has just been betrayed by his own troops and will soon find out that pretty much all the Jedi are dead and that his best friend has turned to the darkside.
The scene where Obi-Wan goes to tell Padme that her husband Anakin has turned the darkside is really sad. You can tell that both are heartbroken and seem at a loss in the ruins of their lives. I also love how careful and gentle Obi-Wan is being around Padme- it's like he's trying his hardest not to hurt her(even though he knows he will). It also shows(to me anyway) that Obi-Wan knew all along that Padme and Anakin were in a relationship. It is also very sad when he realizes that Padme is pregnant with Anakin children and all he can say as he leaves is "I'm so sorry." And he is sorry- he feels like it is all his fault.
The sunset scene lets us know that hope will come to our galaxy far, far away. And as the Force theme swells we know that peace will return to the galaxy one day.
I like how skilled Zett Jukassa is- he was able to make it out of the Temple which is an impressive feat. It is also really sad when he is killed- I wish he had made it to Bail's speeder and had escaped the slaughter. :(
Order 66 is a extremely well done scene- with the sad music and the echoing scenes bringing on an impending tragedy. The clips have have a muted, slow feel to them, further showing us the appalling happenings that are happening to the galaxy's heroes.
The scene where Obi-Wan and Yoda walk through Temple, seeing their slain comrades, friends, even the children, on the ground, is very poignant. Obi-Wan does not know yet and is horrified by what he sees, asking Yoda "Who, who could have done this?"
I absolutely LOVE this part! We totally see Obi-Wan and Anakin camaraderie in this scene and their dialogue is just too funny- especially their facial expressions when they notice that the elevator is coming right towards them from above.
The entire duel with Grievous is awesome! Obi-Wan uses pure Soresu to duel the Jedi-killing General(who had been able to take on six Jedi with ease). Obi-Wan is easily able to take out the General's lightsabers and beat him. Obi-Wan shows us his awesome prowess in fighting skills, not just with a lightsaber, but with a eletro-stick, blaster, and his ability to take the General on without a weapon. The best part, however, is when he kills Grievous with a blaster and after having done so, casts the weapon away commenting "So uncivilized."
Obi-Wan:"We have a job to do, Anakin. Try not to upset him." Grievous:"General Kenobi, The Negotiator. And...Anakin Skywalker. I was expecting someone of you're reputation to be a little bit...older" Anakin:"General Grievous....you're shorter than I expected."
I love this scene as well. We can see the affection they have for each other- they really are best friends. "You deserve you're glorious day with the politicians." and "Ninth time, Anakin. That business on Cato Nemoidia doesn't, doesn't count."
This deleted scene I'm partly glad they took out because it made it where Shaak Ti survive longer. But I just LOVE the hand guesters the two give- you can really tell that they are are a team who knows how to work together and can plan moves without giving away what they are about to do. >:)
Aboard the Invisible Hand- some of the best Obi-Wan and Anakin moments in the film. :)
Yes, I will agree that Padme's death should have been a bit more believable(and so should the pregnancy and giving birth parts. Oh well) but I have to say that the scene was done very well. I felt bad for both Obi-Wan and Padme- Padme because she doesn't have her husband there with her while she has their children(and she's thinking about all the horror that has just happened.) And for Obi-Wan because he is having to stand in Anakin's place and be there for Padme while she has her children(while having to live with the fact that he has just killed, or so he thinks, Anakin). Though I do wish that Padme hadn't died- she had children to live for who would need her and a galaxy that would need her help.
More pictures of my favorite duo on the Invisible Hand
I love their stances here as they circle him(Obi-Wan is in his Soresu stance!!!!!). I also love that, after Grievous breaks the window and the two Jedi are trying not to get sucked in, Obi-Wan grabs onto Anakin's robes before he gets a hold on the console.
"You won't get away this time, Dooku"
"He will not let me down. He never has." - Great line. I love how it shows his utter trust in his apprentice.
I love the opening scene- the image of the sleek, Jedi Interseptors being piloted expertly in the battle. I also love Obi-Wan and Anakin in this scene- great acting and great characterization! :)
"Chancellor Palpatine, Sith Lords are our specialty" :)
In this scene we can see that Obi-Wan disagrees with the Council. He doesn't want to but his friend in his situation(he was the only one against the Council's decision) but the Council told him to tell Anakin. I also like how they did it in the book- twice Obi-Wan tells Anakin something the Council doesn't want him knowing since he thinks it will help- and I think it would have if Palpatine hadn't had such influence over Anakin.
I pretty much like anything with Obi-Wan in this film. He does a lot of the cool stuff that takes up a lot of the film. Oh, and I like what little we see of Obi-Wan and Anakin.
So, I liked the duel when Obi-Wan and Anakin fight Dooku- I just HATE the part where they get cut down. The dueling moves, however, are just plain awesome. Both Jedi are very skilled duelists.
My Favorite part, however, is the Battle of Geonosis. Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme do a very good job escaping their chains and fighting their respective beasts- especially since they don't have weapons. I also like their dialogue-haha, very funny. And then the actual battle is awesome- we get to see hundreds of Jedi in action instead of just one-on-one/two duels. It was also very sad since many Jedi were killed :(. I liked the part where the Jedi are standing bravely, looking totally exhausted, in the Survivors as a former Master tries to get them to surrender. But they won't. I also liked the part where, Obi-Wan had bent down to check a fallen Jedi's pulse, paused with look of sadness on his face, before standing- I found it touching.
I love both of Obi-Wan's fight with Jango, but I prefer the ship-to-ship battle. Jango and Boba keep trying to kill him and Obi-Wan evades everything they throw at him- proving him to be an awesome pilot(Interesting fact: Obi-Wan used to like flying when he was a Youngling/Padawan and wanted to be one). Obi-Wan's hand-to-hand fight with Jango is also pretty cool- I have to say I think Obi-Wan won, really. If he hadn't got to a tracking beacon on their ship and followed them- the Republic would have been started as they got attacked.
I LOVE the speeder chase. We get to see Obi-Wan and Anakin as Master and Apprentice in action and their banter back in forth after Obi-Wan is caught on Anakin's speeder is hilarious. I especially like when Anakin is diving the ship down towards another vessel. and Obi-Wan says "Pull up, Anakin! Pull up!" I also like scenes in the nightclub(You want to go home and re-think you're life. I want to go home and rethink my life).
When Obi-Wan jumps out the window and grabs the ASN-121 courier droid and goes flying away. I mean it's so awesome- He just looks over, takes in the situation and calculates the distance he needs to leap in a matter of miliseconds and BAM-he jumps out the window and grabs the droid. Awesome Obi-Wan moment plain and simple :).
I like a part right before this when we see Obi-Wan unsteadily get to his feet and bend down to help Anakin to his feet. I just love this little moments we get to see in the films of their relationship. Poor Obi-Wan, though. No one is helping him as he limps away- someone should help him or at least ask if he is okay.
Some people don't like what Obi-Wan does in this scene but he really was trying to help Anakin. Anakin didn't even say anything and Obi-Wan says "You look tired." He seems concerned when he says this. Anakin then replies that he doesn't sleep well anymore. Then Obi-Wan asks-states actually-if it's about his mother. Anakin says he doesn't understand why he keeps dreaming about her and Obi-Wan tells him that dreams pass in time. Obi-Wan probably thought he was just having dreams about her- he'd had them about his Master died and was just trying to comfort him that the dreams wouldn't always be there. And if Anakin had wanted to pursue the subject, he could have, but instead he starts talking about Padme. So how was Obi-Wan to know that he was seeing visions because his mother was going to die soon? Anakin didn't even know until later. And Obi-Wan would have saved her- he says so in Wild Space.
I also liked the scenes on Kamino. The rainy world was pretty in a strange way and I liked the inside of the buildings. Obi-Wan is also cool- since he is on a detective-like mission.
I love the scenes where Obi-Wan is spying on the soon-to-be Separatist alliance- it is cool to see him in a secret mission where he can't be seen or heard. Really cool stuff :).
I also like when he's trying to contact Anakin and can't reach him on Naboo he says, "I sure hope nothings happened to him." One of those moments you can see their bond(something I wish there had been more of, but then we do have books in-between the films so I guess that will suffice).
I like the part in this scene where they are reunited with Padme. Anakin starts stuttering when he talks to Padme and makes a comment about how Padme has grown more beautiful. The face Obi-Wan makes at this point is quite humorous- he's probably thinking 'Oh brother!'
I also the elevator scene. This is one of the few scenes in the movie where we can see Obi-Wan's and Anakin's bond. It is a quiet, funny moment between two people, remembering an experience they had several years back(the gundark episode is detailed in Jedi Quest: The Moment of Truth by Jude Watson). I wished there could have been more of these(another one was when they leave and Obi-Wan says "May the Force be with you" to Anakin with a smile).
I also like the scene where Obi-Wan gets his information from Dex about where the toxic dart came from. I like their easy friendship, and it's cool to see Obi-Wan interacting with one of his non-Jedi friends.
